These two products come together as an intelligent optical restoration
solution for Headend-to-Hub or Metro DWDM links. The RAM-20-200-PSM
(Power Splitter/Mux) integrates a low-loss DWDM Multiplexer and
a 1X2 optical splitter. The customer specified splitter divides
optical power between primary and protection fibers, providing a
redundant optical link. The RAM-20-200-PSD (Protection Switch/Demux)
incorporates a fast latching 2X1 optical switch and a low-loss DWDM
demultiplexer. The automatic power detection and decision circuitry
quickly reroutes the link to protection fiber in case of primary
fiber failure or selects the better fiber if the power level is
simply degraded, thus preventing loss of service. Both units feature
enhanced set of power alarms that inform the operator about the
health of the optical transmission. Value-added monitoring and control
electronics allows remote configuration and monitoring. Both products
are built upon the Confluent's proprietary G3-200
passive mux/demux component and provide unsurpassed specifications
for insertion loss, flat filter shape, crosstalk and dispersion.
The units have optical connectors for inserting additional optical
equipment (such as EDFAs) in front of the splitter and the demultiplexer.
Integrated power taps are provided for external network spectrometer.
