Confluent Photonics Introduces New DWDM Mux/Demux with Integral Restoration Optical Switch

Confluent Photonics, a leading provider of optical transport solutions, today introduced a new DWDM Multiplexer/Demultiplexer with an integral restoration optical switch. The Protection Switch Mux/Demux, Model RAM-20-200-PS, is designed for DWDM optical transport applications that require an elevated level of reliability.

The integral optical switch will prevent loss of service by toggling between primary and redundant fiber within 50 milliseconds, whenever a fiber break is detected by the unit. Also, it can be configured to automatically select the better fiber if power degradation is detected. The model RAM-20-200-PS provides an enhanced set of power alarms to inform the operator about the health of the optical transmission. Degradation detection and signal analysis criteria can be controlled remotely by the operator.

The Mux/Demux features ultra-low insertion loss, excellent uniformity and extremely low chromatic dispersion, making it the industry standard for high-channel count, high-speed applications.
